I am currently working on a replica of an early medieval Irish boot but first I needed a suitable last. My attempt made a good addition to the log stove and as it burned merrily away I decided to contact my old friend Declan Kenny to see if he could bring his woodworking skills to the rescue. I am glad to say that he did and the sequence of photographs show the last emerging from the tree limb.
The replica last is similar to the examples recovered from Deer Park Farms and Drumclay Crannog.
Built to last, as they say…
(I’ll get my tunic…)
